A survival knife is useful for so many tasks. The principle role that a survival knife plays (and was designed for) is to fulfill all the roles that camp tools would normally handle. A survival knife is what you want to have with you when everything else is taken away. If there is one tool to have on your person if your life depends on a single tool, it is a survival knife.
